A request
The client contacted us regarding a problem with the machine for packing medicines into boxes, there was issue with the automated barcode control system for the final product that is further distributed.
The control system consisted of three barcode scanners for reading the presence of farm barcodes on the box and on the instructions. The scanners were old and managed from a standard PC that housed a SCADA for visualization and control of the scanners and an interface to a Siemens S7-200 PLC controller that managed the other processes on the machine. The PC with SCADA was in a bad condition and unreliable in operation.
The solution
A complete retrofit of the process part of the machine was proposed, which was related to the operation of the barcode scanner and the connection with the existing S7-200 control system. The client accepted a solution that consisted of three new barcode scanners connected through Profinet to an S7-1200 PLC controller, delivery of a new industrial HMI control panel on a new SCADA that has all the necessary functionalities. The operation of the machine after the completion of the retrofit was successfully verified at the required 85 cycles/minute.
