CASE STUDIES 6

From Design to Delivery: Conveyor control system

We were given a project to develop a new system that would manage the operation of conveyors on a production line. Each project has a framework within which it is carried out, such as functional, solution development, design, software, equipment selection, flexibility for expansion and upgrade of functions, quality of equipment selection and execution of works and of course financial frameworks.

In our project, we selected Siemens control components, Schneider Electric and B&R Automation frequency converters, Murr I/O modules for peripheral signals, Sik safety relays, etc. We also had the task of optimally utilizing the technical capabilities of the selected equipment, so we used integrated communication protocols for communication with frequency converters, while communication with peripheral Murr I/O modules and HMI is done via Profinet communication.

For transport management, a Siemens PLC series 1200 is used, the operator panel is also from the manufacturer Siemens, model KTP1200.

The development of the PLC control program and the user program for the HMI were done in the TIA portal.

Sensors are installed on the conveyors frame that control the operation of individual conveyors.

The conveyor control system also collects information about the state of the machines that makes structure of the production line. With the usage of these signals, information is exchanged and influences on the control and management of the synchronous process of operation of machines and conveyors.
